Today I'm excited to share with you the first batch of the pre-wedding photos I took for my beautiful cousin's wedding this summer in Greece!

A few months before the wedding, Myriam, my cousin, asked if I would handle the photographs of the pre-wedding afternoon. I was really touched! But more importantly, I was sort of glad - getting ready for the wedding itself is such an intimate part of the whole day, involving the mother of the bride, the bride's best girlfriends etc, so I think it was nicer to have someone close around to take those special snaps... (Obviously it's important for the groom too, but guys never have as much fun as the ladies!!) It was also a prime opportunity to practice photographing a wedding again!

As it was an evening ceremony, we all got together around two in the afternoon when the hair and makeup began. Myriam, as a gift, offered for us all to have our hair and makeup done by professionals! I'm quite a critic when it comes to makeup in particular, so I wasn't sure how it would turn out, but I was so impressed. The hairstylist was lovely and listened to exactly what everyone wanted, including myself who changed my idea every two minutes. And, the makeup artist, wow! She made us all look like stars! (Granted, she does actually work for a Greek television station, but still!)

Each one of us sat to have our hair and makeup done by the two wonderful ladies. It was amazing seeing everyone transform - it's one of my favourite things in movies, when the dorky, loser girl is transformed into something beautiful (lol not implying we were all dorks beforehand)! Andddd, there was singing and merriment, just general enjoyment and being in the moment, exactly how it should be.

I took hundreds of photos and have slowly whittled it down to some special ones... that wasn't easy! This post includes the first set of pictures and I'll share some more next week. I really love photography for these moments, because it really challenges you to take a step back, look around and watch all the laughter, joy and celebration that surrounds you. To capture those moments before they melt away. It was an afternoon I truly won't forget, spending time with my wonderful cousin on her very, very special day....
