Portrait: Boho Smile

Fields of hay sway in the wind, as sunrays hit the honey locks of a young girl. She walks through a lush forest in the height of autumn, surrounded by orange leaves and hints of winter... *Pause* Hold on, we're in the desert, there are no fields of hay or falling orange leaves... Now what! Time to whip out the old imagination...

A few weeks ago, my dear friend Lucy agreed to model for me and help bring to life my desires of a boho shoot in the desert. When I initially started planning this, I just didn't know where to base it. Boho and hippie is all about sunlight and nature, being at one with the earth, Woodstock etc etc. So, at first, I had thought about the desert, but I craved a little more greenery on my set this time. I decided upon Safa Park on a Saturday afternoon when it was nice and quiet, minus screaming kids and family barbecues. Having almost no people around was the key to making the location almost unrecognisable. 

Lucy was brilliant and handled my directions really well. We had a lovely time strolling around and catching up, which is something I love a lot about shoots - it's either a fun activity with an old friend, or even sometimes a chance to get to know someone new. This shoot, for me, was a 50/50 split between two things - location/outfit, to make sure the look and feel was right, and post-production enhancements, to give it that 60's photographic film feel.

So, what do you guys think? Could this be a bohemian lost in the passion and excitement of the mid-1960's?
